AUSTRALASIAN CROSSCOUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

NEW ZEALANDERS SECOND;

SYDNEY, 26th Augwt. New South .'Wales (with 16 points) won the fourth five miles Australasian cross-country championship, 'New Zealand (22 points) being second, and Victoria (43 points) third: The contest for individual honours resulted: —F. Bailey (N.8.W.), l;., Rose (N.Z.), 2; Nalder (N:Z.), 3; Won by fifty yardß, Nalder being twenty yards behind' Rose. Time, 27niin 27sec. The contest ultimately resolved itself into a struggle between Bailey aid Rose for individual honours.

New Zealand's showing was a feature of the contest, as''it was expected that Victoria would be' the Blues' most serious' rivals: In the first lap on the Bandwick racecourse Mackenzie led the bunch, but was joined by Bailey at the end of two miles, with Rose arid Nalder handy. . These' pdsitioris were maintained till the' last hurdle, when Bailey and Rose were running level into the straight" Bailey spurted- and won easily from Rose; who placed a comfortable marfm between himself arid: Nalder' Macenzie' was' fourth, fifty ' yards back Kohlman and Boyd (Victoria) were eighth and ninth.
