BASEBALL

GAMES AT MIRAMAB,

A splendid recovery was seen at Miraniar Park on Saturday, when, in the baseball match, the B team made 8 runs in their last innings, beating the A team by 2 runs, the result being 13 runs against 11. Much credit for the victory is due. to Captain F. Alexander, who pitched and fielded exceptionally well, and handled his team like a veteran. The victors' team was greatly strengthened by the inclusion of ™ „.""' who Play<=d l"s first game in Wellington. He donned the mask and caught to perfection. The batting and catching of the side were a great improvement on the previous Saturday's display, Solomons being distinctly noticeable in this respect. Wakelyn and J. Alexander were up to their usual reliable standard. The sensation of the day opened with the three-bagger hit. by M Ghnn to the pitching o£ Catchiwk, in the sixth innings. This was followed by runs by Wakelyn (2), J. Alexander (2), Cohen, F. Alexander, and Solomons, putting B team two runs ahead. M'Girr then took the.ball; and speedily disposed of the side. A team,' though defeated on the day, were as usual a very even team, and hard to beat. They sadly missed the reliable Kay (who was absent for the first time this, season); and Balkin their star pitcher. M'Girr was good all round, and ably assisted by Hawken, Shotlander, Powrie, Griffiths, and Haselden. Catchpole did not pitch a 3 well as usual, but was good at bat as well as guardian of first base. The game was spoilt to a great extent by the slippery nature of the ground; nevertheless, the display by both sides was well worth watching, the errors being remarkably few. *
