NEW YORK, 24th August. Sir Edward Grigg, addressing the Institute of Politics at Williamstown, Massachusetts, defended British Imperialism, and predicted . that the United States would in future to compelled to become increasingly imperialistic. Sir Edward admitted.-. that imperialism contravenes sen-determination for backward peoples ; tut it was essential for the spread of trade and of law, peacej and order. Therefore imperialism was the greatest power in the world-to-day." - Referring to ther American- development of Cuba and the Philippines, he remarked: "More power to you. You are'on the only road which will make the.".world a better -place to live in. I believe that American imperialism is only/ on the threshholds of its responsibilities.. They must and will increase.
