LONDON, 24th August. At the Southea chess tourney Steel lost to Über.
Mr. Steele is the present champion of Victoria. He is the third Australian to compete for the British championship. Messrs. W. S. Viner (then champion of Australia). and S. Crackenthorp (champion of New South Wales) each scored 5j out of a possible ll when competing for the British championship. Mr. Steele's loss to Über in 'the penultimate round, recorded above, means that he can only total % wins even if h e scores in the final round. '
