(noil our own CORRI6POXDBNT.)

■ . ■ ' SYDNEY, 15th August. Darcy Hadfield, the New Zealand sculler, is returning home with at least one fine win to his credit. This is the £150 sculling handicap, rowed on the Parra-' matta River, last Saturday. ...-,.. Like Hadfield,' Paddon secured third place in his heat, but did not participate in the final.. Since his match on the Richmond, Paddon has been laid up with influenza, and as he has not fully recovered from the effects, his efforts in the second heat proved too. much, and he was unfit, to take part in the filial. The final was a. good race from start to finish, a prominent feature being the fine style!.shown by the New Zealander and Major GoodseU. J. Saul, -who rowed well at the start, was a length behind at Putney,' with W. M'Devitt close at hand. At Cabarita Point, Hadfield, making a.fine effort, passed all his opponents .'excepting Gobdsell and Ceruti, who rowed well all the way. Hadfield continued'to gain, and finished two lengths ahead of Goodsell, Ceruti coming in a good third. • Congratulations from all quarters were showered on the New Zealander, as he lifted his, boat from the water on to the pontoon at Towne's boatshed.

Interviewed after the event, Hadfield stated that he had an easy row pver the best portion of the journey. ""The final stage of the race was certainly hard,'but I still had a little left," he said. . "1 was disappointed that Paddon - did not start in the final, for which he qualified, but he is in a bad way. However Goodsell held to me,'although I was not all out. He rowed a good race." A fajewelL evening was tendered to Kadfield by the residents of Gladsville at the homo, of Mr. and, Mrs. George Towns on Saturday night. Hadfield was presented with a handsome wallet and a beaded bag for Mrs. Hadfield
