Built on the Clyde thirtyrthreo years ago, there is lying in a Birkemhead dock to-day one of- theJast of tire/famous wool «ippers, the Moant Stewaj-t. / She and' a sister ship, the Cromdale/f'built on identical lines, were',the last yrord in sailing ship design: when they were- launched, for both were built for the;cokmial wool trade, and were, it-is said/the last two clippers to be laid down spec.ia.lly for this service. They were magnificent examples ot -merchant ship architecture, and both crossed amain skysail yard..-.The Mount Stewart has already outlived her sister ship by , ten. years (the Cromdale was wrecked in the .Channel in 1913), and it is possible that she is ;the'-last ship of the famous wool.^fleets'of,.the nineteentn century,to be still on active service. If there are others knocking about tue seas disguised under itv; names and foreign owners—like the Cutty Sink was ior many-y ears—then one can' feel pride that the 'Mount Stewart^ still'flies the old ■red-" ■duster" and the house flag of a famous British firm known-in'every port of the world. : .- ~
