•■Researches carried out iii the Central American. Republic of Guatemala by. Mr. T, W.-'i 1. Gaiin, Reader in Central American Archaeology at -Liverpool University, have resulted in the discovery of a number, of mysterious flint instru4 ments, states the "Daily Mail.'l Excavations, were made amid the ruins of a small temple situated at the summit of a mound near i Quirigua. This temple was one of those built by the ancient Maya people-of Central America, who, according- to' the latest theory/ derived their civilisation from Egypt, and passed across the Pacific some 2000 or more years ago. Twenty-six beautifully chipped, eccentrically shaped flint instruments were discovered. One of them is 11 inches long, chipped with exquisite delicacy and precision from dark brown, flint. What it is for no one yet knows. No other objects* were found,, but the.data of the flints was closely fixed; by ...a,-stele or upright stone slab, erected near the mound.
