Mrs. W. E. Kettle, of Greymouth, and Miss V. Kettle are leaving for a visit to Sydney.

Mrs. W. E. Bidwill, of Feathcrston, is visiting Mrs. Rhodes at Remuora, Auckland.

Mrs. T. G. Lewis and her son have left for a visit to Australia.

An interesting visitor to Wellington next week will bo Dr. Rosalie Morton, M.D. Opportunity will be given by the Pioneer Club, which will hold a reception on Monday afternoon at half-past three, for members to meet her. Dr. Morton hopes to meet local women doctors, artists, and writers, and it is hoped that all members of the Women's National Council and of the Federation of University Women will make, an effort to bo present.- Dr. Morton has had a distinguished career, having seen war service in Serbia and.being the Commissioner of the American Women's Medical Association, also a member of the League, of American. Pen Women. She has given some delightful talks to women at various centres in Auckland, and Wellington women .niay look forward with much interest to her visit here.

The First Battalion of .the Wellington Regiment Band held a dance in the Town • Hall last evening, when there were enough dancers to comfortably fill the. floor. The decorations consisted of a muslin canopy and shaded electric lights, with trellis work round the pillars and stage. The space.under'the gallery was partitioned off., for supper, a cabaret supper being served, of which Mrs. Vine was in charge, assisted by the ladies of, the committee and some of the men of the band. There was plenty of sitting-out accommodation at the sides, while the gallery also served the same purpose. . General Sir Edward Chaytor was present at the.dance, also the Commandant, "Colonel R. St. J. Beere, with Mrs. Beere (who wore a frock, of shot .pink, ta.ffqtas and radium, lace to tone), Misses Ethel Spiers (blue charmeuse), 'Chisholm, White, Talbot, Henderson, Esau, Major.Evatt, and Lieutenant Shadlow, condpe'tor... Th,e. committee who were responsible for the arrangements consisted of Mesdames (Hempton. Vine, Shardiow, Clifford, A. M. Iligg! Burnett, Goldsmith, Miss House, Lieutenant Shardiow (phairinan), Messrs. A. Rigg, Walls, E. Rigg, Colvin, Lohghurst, Adams, J. Lloyd, Campbell, Tankard, and H. Parke (hon. secretary).

A music afternoon was'given recently by a number of Miss Iris Trim's pupils at the Anglican Boys' Home at Lower Ilutt. The programme ' opened with a duet by Eva and Florrie Rowe, "piano solos were given by Beryl Aldous, Mary Wakelin, Enid Saunders, Neil Fleming, Mollie Shearer, MarjorieFieming, and Bva Rowe. A dance given' by Beryl Aldous and recitations by Marjorie Fleiri ing were much appreciated^ A few adult friends assisted the ichiidren." Items were given by Mrs. and Miss Trim, Mr. A. Spencer (elocutionist), and songs by Mr. H. C. Trim. Community singing was joined in heartily by' the boy's, who seemed to be very pleased and happy with their afternoon's entertainment. Thanks are due to the matron (Mrs. Hazeltine) and staff for the hospitality extended to the visitors. The afternoon concluded with tho matron asking th-e boys to give three cheers for all who had assisted in the programme. ■

The Hataitai branch of the W.N.R. last week held a very enjoyable 500 afternoon at the residence of Jlrs. Sheplierdson, Rata road. Mrs. Shepherdßon and Mrs. Ryder Were the hostesses. The prize-winners were Mrs. Payne, Mi: Gully, and Mrs. Turhbull. Jlrs. Bear (president), at the conclusion of ■ the afternoon, passed a very hearty vote of thanks to the hostesses for the pleasant entertainment.

A successful bazaar was conducted in the Coronation Hall. Pahnerston North by supporters of the Terrace .End School in aid of the memorial baths fund and the ground improvement scheme. A particularly well-arranged and sociable dance is the annual bail oi the Wei- | lington Fire Brigade, and that held last night in the Concert Chamber was ijuito up to the standard. Nearly all the members of the brigade were present with their friends, and the gathering was a very friendly one. The decorations were most effective. The pink and white ( draperies left from. the previous night's dance were utilised, with the addition of festoons of lycopodium starred with pale pink flowers. The back of the stage was covered lightly with tall bamboo and other greenery, trails of lycopodium making an effective setting for the orchestra (Cowley's), which in its turn was half bidden by trellis screens with an archway in the centra draped with pink. The pillars were twined with lycopodium, and the whole effect was very pretty. Supper was served in the end corridor, where the tables were decorated with spring flowers. A number of the city councillors were present, including Councillor W. H. Bennett, with Miss Bennett in blue silk; Councillor and Mrs. Parton, the latter in black: Councillor Meadowcrofl, and Councillor Mrs. M'Vicar, who wore black silk. Superintendent and Mrs. Tait were pre.senfc, the latter weaving pink satin. Miss Una Tait, who made her debut, wore white georgette over silk. 'Miss Tait is a. constant attendant at the little dances held by tho brigade in their building, and to mark their regard for her tho members presented her on this occasion with a pvett-y posy of flowers and a box of chocolates. The annual ball in connection with the Returned Soldiers' Association was held m the Agricultural Hall on the Palmerston North Showgrounds on Wednesday night, and proved highly successful. About 200 couples were present the M.C.'s being Messrs. J. R. Smith, F. Cousins, D. Dilks, and L. Bryant. Mesdames Jacobs, Nathan Trask Fuller, Ashworth, Belt, Rutherford , M'Ferran, Sinclair, and Wilson, and Miss Wilson were chaperons.

The fortnightly meeting of the Australian Club was.held.last, night, and a very enjoyabje evening spent. items were given by Mrs. >Kinvig and Mr. tfoock. It.was.announced that the next club night would be a novelty dance programme.. Supper was served and the National Anthem brought the evening to a close.
