FRENCH SAILORS ENTERTAINED

The British and Foreign Sailors' Society (Wellington branch) entertained the officers and crew of the s.s. La Marseillaise on Wednesday evening lagl, when the -society's--room- was filled to its utmost capacity. The programme was kindly provided by the local French Cercle, M. Dv Flou, president, presiding, and the following being the contributors to the enjoyment of the evening -.—Mrs. Tarboyeff-Benge, ■'■ Missel Greig, Hirid.M. Wood," M. Whyte, A. Wh'yte, also General Tarboyeff and Prn-fessorßpyd-WilsoEJ. Several of the officers arid members of the crew of La Marseillaise also contributed acceptably tb the programme, whilst Madams Do Chanet-M'lntosh and Miss C. Smithson played the piano accompaniments. Both officers and men were delighted to have such a fine concert provided for them all in their own language. The songs, recitations, piano pieces,- etc.. werei of a high order. Mr. , Hamilton Nimmo, vice-president of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society, thanked th« ladies and gentlemen of the Cercle for so willingly coming forward to the society's assistance. M, Dv Flou, in replying, said that they would be pleased to give similar -help-when French ships were visiting the port of Wellington. The entertainment concluded with the singing of;the National Anthem and "The Marseillaise."
