AN OPIUM RUNNER

, AUCKLAND, .This Day. Jue Lam Young, a Chinaman, said to ■be a man of means, and described by 'Detective! Cummings aa procurer and runner for opium smokers in Auckland, was fined £50, in default three months' imprisonment, at the Police Court today. He was found in a doorway on Saturday night in a suspicious attitude, and when searched by detectives two tins of opium were found in his possession and a tape for putting on the jiipe. He told the Magistrate the opium found was for making piUs for stomach ache. The Magistrate remarked that there must be a lot of Chinese with stomach aeries in the city, as he. had heard that tal» so often.
