EMPRESS THEATRE.

Leatrice Joy and Matt Moore occupy the leading roles in '.'Minnie," a Marshall Iseilan production, which is to be the feature on the programme at the Empress Theatre to-day. It- is said to be a real screen entertainment, with an excellent human story, and thrills in plenty, but its big quality is in its humorous situations. Marshall Neilan has taken life in a small town country hotel, and put the incidents of the screen in life-like fashion. The story centres around Leatrice Joy as Minnie, the drudge in. her father's hotel. Minnie is homely, very homely', so much so that everybody tells her about her ugliness with a sheer. Minnie likes to dance, but she's clumsy: Minnie just loves to have a beau, but the young men laugh and go elsewhere. That makes Minnie angry. She invents a lover. She writes loveletters to herself and drops them when; the gossips can find them. She writes passionate love-letteis, which cause the gossips to raise their brows and murmur scandal. She sends herself flowers and big boxes of candy. But ahe overdoes the scheme. Her stepsister demands that Minnie produce the wealthy, ardent lover. And the humour and tragedy of the story continue-to a fitting climax.
