A TURF PROBLEM.
An Auckland sport, on the way to the Grand National Meeting, has submitted to the \yriler the following perplexing little problem :—You go to the races with £55 in your pocket, and you put £20 on a horse. Tho horse gets beaten and you have £35 left. Of the £35 you put another £20 on, and again you lose. You have now £15 left. From the £15 you put £9 on another horse, and again you lose. Now you have only £6 of the £55 left. You still keep chasing your money, and after putting on the £6 you have nothing left. Now here are the amounts tabulated— £20 on leaves £35 £20 on leaves £15!. £9 on leaves £6 £6 on ...'.. leaves £0 : T'l. £55 ..~£sG~' The question is, has the punter to pay the extra £1, and, if so, where is it?
