Sir, —It is inspii'ing to the ratepayers to realise that the Mayor, Mr. Strand,. and councillors are seized with the spirit of borough enterprise. The proposal to purchase land and buildings is economically sound, and the result of the poll is anticipated. The weakness of-the schema' is the intended sale of that portion"oor; the land to be acquired at the junctipii of the Main road and Fraser street. Thafcsite should be reserved for a future town L hall, the advantages of the site being obvious. For the present the properties should be rented out. The income will reduce the expenditure associated with the undertaking. The City of Wellington in 1921-22 derived a, revenue of £60,273 from its municipal lands—an ex ample to contemporary boroughs.—l am,
