PRACTICE GAMES
HAWKES COMPLAINS OF A SORE ARM.
(Received 11th August, 10 a.m.)
CHICAGO, Bth August. The Australians were in good form though Hawkes has complained of a slightly sore arm, but declared that the soreness disappeared aftev warming up M'lnnes's wrist is still weak, but much improved. He played excellent tennis against Anderson, who gave a fine exhibition during practice of overhead smashes.
Seiichero Kashio is a very soft player, but steady. ZemzD Shimidzu still rf-tains the wonderful steadiness which characterised his play in 1921, but be seems to have dropped considerably in the scale as a player. His service is very weak and' he lacks, distance in volleying. Masomosuke Fukuda hits hard from both forehand and backhand but makes many errors, which, it is believed, will accrue to Andersonts advantage.
Tho doubles draw is not yet mado but the final day's singles will be between J.BHawkPS '(Australia) and Masomosuke Fukudi (Japan), the other game beinj: J. D. Anderson (Australia) v. Zemzo Shimidzu (Japan).
