WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL. Notice of Intention to apply for Order-in-Counc" under the Tramways Act, 1908, and it» Amendments. NOTICE is hereby given that the Weihngton City Council propose* to apply to His Excellency the Govi-r.or-General for an Order authorising the construction by the said Council of electric tramways aa extensions of the tramway constructed in the City of Wellington under the authority of Order-in-Council dated the 27th day of October, 1902, as follows: — DESCRIPTION OF WORKS. (a) Extension connection tramway at Wallace street with tramway at John street; (b) (1) Extension connecting- tramway at Clyde quay with tramway in Jervoia quay north of Hunter street, and with tramway in Lambton quay; and (2) Extension connecting tramway in Jervois quay, along Johnston street, with tramway in Lambton quay. ROUTE OF EXTENSION (a). A double line of tramway commencing on the loop in Wallace street immediately north of Howard street and at/ a point about 300 links therefrom, and proceeding southwards alone Wallace street a distance of about 1625 links, thence through lown Belt in a direction stighty north of east for a distance of 375 links; thence m the same general direction along John street to its intersection with Hanson street, a distance of 320 links; thence along John street in adirec-' tion slightly south of east to its intersection with Riddiford street, a distance of 470 links; thence in a generally southeasterly direction, a distance of 160 links to its junction with the existing tramway track in Riddiford street. The total length of the tramway is 29 chains 51 links from its starting point in Wallace street to its junction with the existinn line in Riddilord- street. ROUTE OF EXTENSION (b), (1) and (2). " V' (1) Connecting looplines between Clyde' quay and Lambton quay, and botwecn Clyde quay and Jervois quay A single line commencing on the west track and near the end of the existing double track in Clyde quay, at a point about 370 links south from the south building hne .of Wakefield street and running northwards along Clyde quay 8 distance of 210 links; thence s double track running in the same general direction to the intersection with * Wakefield street, a distance of 180 links; thence in a generally westerly and north-westerly direction along Wakefield street to its intersection with Victoria street a distance of 43W links; thence for 1530 links in a north-easterly direction along Vie-> tona street to a point 60 links south of the south building- line-of .Hunter street Here the track bifurcates, the east leg proceeding as a single track along Hunter Btreet in a direction north of west, crossing Customhouse quuy and Featherston street to the west building line of'Feath- . erston street, a distance of 893 links; and thence in a north-westerly direction to its junction with the east track of the existing tramway in Lambton quay, a distance of 90 links. The west track in Victoria street runs as a single track from the point 60 links south of the south building.line of Hunter street, in a north-easterly direction to its junction with the west track of existing double hne of tramway in Jervois quay at a point about 100 links north of the north line of Hunter street, a distance of about 275 links. The total length of the western branch of this tramway from its junction with the existing tramway in Clyde quay to its junction with the existing tramway in Jervois quay is 65.4 chains. The total length of the eastern branch of this tramway from its junction with the existing tramway in-Clyde quay 'to its junction with the existing tramway in Lambton quay is 70.5 chains. (2) CONNECTING LOOPLINE ALONG JOHNSTON STREET: j Beginning at a point on the west track of the existing double line of tramway on Customhouse quay, about 40 links, I south of the south building line of Johnston street, a single line of tramway proceeds in a direction north of west j along Johnston street, across Featherston ' street, and junctions with the existing I east track of a double tramway track in | Lambton quay at a point about 75 links south of the south building line of Johnston street. The total length of this connecting loopline is about 11.2 chains. RAILS, TRACK, AND OVERHEAD EQUIPMENT. The rails are to be made to the specification of the British Engineering Standards Association. For Route (a) they are to be 1001b weight per lineal yard for straight track and 1061b weight per ■ lineal yard for curves of sharp radius. For Routes (b) (1), and (2) they are to be 131b per linear yard heavier in each case. SLEEPERS. The sleepers on which the rails will be laid will be short lengths of old rail inverted. Tie-bars at regular intervals ! will hold the track to gauge. The sleepers and rails will be encased in concrete to within a short distance from the surface, which will be finished in bituminous mixture or asphalt. ] DOUBLE BONDS. - Double bonds shall be used at all open ' joints, and single. bonds where rails are welded together. The two rails of each track will be cross-bonded at intervals of about 120 feet, and one track crossbonded to the other track at intervals of about 240 feet. ELECTRIC LINES. The overhead trolley wires are to be supported by side poles with span wires The system is known as the double insulator system, and is so constructed that no insulation depends on any one insulator. Current will be supplied along the overhead line at 500 or 550 volts or thereabouts. The overhead trolley-wires in conjunction with the, existing lines are put up in half-mile sections, and arrangements will be made to fuse and break these sections and so isolate any one section at any' moment. No feeders will be required for any of the extensions. AND NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that plans, longitudinal sections and crosssections, showing _ the nature of the ■.works proposed to be undertaken, together with a description thereof, and together with a draft of the Order-in-Council proposed to be submitted to the Governor-General for approval, are deposited in the office of the Town Clerk of the said Council, situate in Cuba street, in the City of Wellington and are there open for inspection without fee during office hours, and that the same will remain open for inspection for a period of four weeks from the first publication of this Notice.
