[BY "HAUF BACK"]

GAMES AGAIN POSTPONED

NOTES AND COMMENTS.

The games under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Rugby League football were again postponed last Saturday for the third time in succession on account of bad weather and the heavy state of the grounds. This has put the competitions back a good deal. The West Coast Rugby League representatives will play Wellington, it is stated, on the Ist September. The Coast are very strong in League football this year, and have somo good players. This game should create a great deal of interest in local League circles.

The Canterbury representatives outpointed the local combination in ail departments last Saturday, winning by 29 points to 5. Wellington held their "own till half-time, when the scores were 9-5 in favour of Canterbury, but after that the form of the- Southern team told on the visitors to Christchurch.

D. Whittington played a good game in the forwards for Wellington. His try was brilliant and well-merited. • C. Smeaton, the City junior captain, had the misfortune to injure his leg last Saturday in the junior representative game at Christchurch, but it is reported that lie is getting on very well.

W. Findlay, City junior full-back, is playing ( sound football, and should'be noticed by the selectors. W. Aamodt played a good game at Christchurch. Ho can play in any position in the back division.

Hansen and Cook, City wing threequarters, are playing up to form. C. Nixon uses his weight to advantage among the good forward pack of City.

R. i\ixon is a tower of strength to his team.

W. Clements, City juniors, is a player who can be relied upon to play in practically any position on the field.

W. Ludlow, City thirds, is playing up to form this season. His weight is much appreciated in the forwards.

E: Pay, G. Scaly, and Ruscoe, of the City thirds, are playing exceptionally good football this season, and they should be heard of in bigger football in the near future.

J. Kruse played a sound gamo at half for the Wellington representatives against Canterbury last Saturday. He tried all the tricks he had ;in the bag, but failed.

Stanford (Petone) warranted his inclusion in the representatives last Saturday against Canterbury. He played a great game in the three-quarter line.

The date of the' arrival 'in Auckland of the North Sydney team is somewhat indefinite, owing to the fact that three teams, North Sydney, South Sydney, and Eastern Suburbs, are all leading in points for the senior cup competition. However, the Auckland League expect to receive advice within the next few days of the date of arrival here. It is not known yet whether the team will play in Wellington, but there is every prospect of this eventuating if the steamer on which the team returns to Sydney leaves from Wellington. The League game commenced late this season in' Melbourne. There are six clubs in the competition, Air Force, St. Kilda, and Kiwis at present leading. The Kiwis is a club composed entirely of New Zealanders. This manth the. Sydney University.is, expected to pay a visit, and this should dp a lot to popularise the gama. There are no outstanding players, all for the most part, being slow on their feet. Many Englishmen, too, have helped to swell the ranks.

The action of the Referees' Association in forwarding a letter to the St. John Ambulance Brigade expressing appreciation with the work of that body is a reminder of the excellent work put in by bands of volunteers who turn out to help injured players Saturday after Saturday, and in all weathers. The players have I.ad every reason to be gratified at the timely assistance of the ambulance men, when in the heat of the battle they have been temporarily rendered hors-de-combat.

A crowd of about 2000 enthusiasts rolled up at Carlaw Park on Wednesday of last week to witness games between teams in the Wednesday competition. "On the No. 1 ground Taxis defeated Tramways by 13 points to 12, after a close and exciting contest. On the other ground, another interesting game was played, when Post and Telegraph won from Railway by 20 points to 13. Mr.. J. Wingham (president of the West Coast Rugby League) and Mr. Beton (vice-president) were visitors to Wellington during the week, and were full of good news with regard to the progress of the League code on the Coast. ■.-....
