PIANOFORTE RECITAL.
Sirs. Janet Eoss Hector may very rightly prido herself on the complete musical success of the pianoforte recital given by her in the -Art Gallery last evening, a recital including in its scope the works of the great masters, Beethoven, Chopin, Schmonn. Bach', and liszt, as well as examples ot the more modern writings of such composers as Glazqunov and Karganoff, each number musically and technically delightfully rendered". Beethoven's great Sonata (Op. 10, No. 3). with its dignified largo movement contrasting with the dainty minuetto and rondo, the trio being omitted, was a particularly fine item, notably so in the concluding passages of the first movement, one of the finest passages in the whole Beethoven library of music. The Chopin Sonata (Op. 35), in which the noble and inspiring Marche Funebre occurs, followed in a later movement by the snnshine and jewels of the Scherzo, ranked equally with the Beethoven number in the opinion of the audience. Schumann was represented on the programme by Scones of Childhood," a lighter work which was rendered in sympathetic and very) charming manner. The concert study in D flat of Liszt is generally looked upon as that composer's greatest work, in brilliance and m musical con.atruction. ajid in this number again' Mrs. Hector delighted her audience. Before playing Bach's "Capriccio" Mrs. Hector read a brief paper on the work by Mr Robert Parker, who described the composition, divided into so many brief movements, as the impressions and emotions of Bach in farewelling his brother on the v \°< r£f de Part«re for Denmark. "Le Auit (Glazounov) and a brilliant study of Karganoff'a were other items of the programme, at the conclusion of which Mrs. Hector was accorded a well-merited and hearty ovation.
