PARAMOUNT AND ARTCRAFT.
A _ picture showing Saturday's celebrations at the opening of the Otira tunnel is included on to-day'e programmes at the Paramount and Artcraft Theatres. In the star dramatic feature Tom Mix takes a firm hold of his. audience, and sweeps it through a whirl of action and romance. This Fox picture, " For Big Stakes," tells of Arizona, plots and adventure, of deeds worth doing, of one man in particular and of the girl he loves. The personal work of Mix throughout the photoplay is up to his highest level. Tom Mix does some remarkable" shooting, some skilful rope throwing, and riding of the finest sort. The second feature stars John Gilbert in
"Calvert's Valley," a 6tory by Margaret Prescott Montague, in which the elements of mystery, adventure, and romance are skilfully blended. Special musical programmes are a feature at both theatres.
