PROPOSALS FOR ECONOMIC
CONFERENCE,

LONDON, 3rd August. Bepresentatives of the principal producing associations of the British Empire, at a meetin* held to consider what representations should be made to the Empire Economic Cdnfereiice, unanimously passed resolutions in favour of substantial inter-Empire preferences, an Imperial agricultural policy, an accurate survey, of the actual and potential production of ihe Empire in cereals, meat, and dairy products, and adjustments of preferential duties with the object of increasing the production of the Empire.
It was also resolved that preferences should be accorded in the form of definite money ( value preference, and that the Government be asked to give an assurance that the preference will not be reduced for ten years, except by the mutual agreement of all concerned. A resolution in favour of asking the Economic Conference to recommend all Governments represented that all contracts issued by Government Departments and public bodies of the Empire should be given to British Empire firms using only British Empire labour and materials was carried.
