In the course of his remarks at the annual meeting of the Pahiatua Bacing Uub, the president said that they were -entitled to their own opinion. There were those who regarded racing as a terrible evil, whilst there were others who encouraged sport generally. These latter had a very much wider outlook than the poor chap who had never been on both sides of the fence. He thought that it some- of those gentlemen who opposed racing, and whbm-they were inclined to regard as beim; narrow-minded were to personally acquaint themselves with the well-conducted manner of the sport, and to note the enjoyment great numbers of people derived from it, thov would be inclined to say it was not such a bud game after all.
