(BT TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL 10 THE POST ) PALMERSTON N., 3rd August. Mr. V. F. B. Rogers, who has been accountant at the local branch of tho National Bank, and who has been transferred to Dannevirke, was the recipient prior to his departure of a salad bowl from the local members of the bank's staff. Mr Rogers has been gucceeded here by Mr. A. W. M'Donnell, who has been transferred from Reefton. The roof of the main building thai, will contain the new destructor plant for the Borough Council is nearing completion, and good progress is bein" made with the work of bricking-in the boiler and the combustion chambers and cells.
At the Police C6urfc to-day, Rennie .Hughes, alias Thomas Douglas, a Maori youth, pleaded guilty to a charge of converting to his own use at Levin a bicycle, valued at . £10, the property of some person unknown, and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment He was also charged with breaking and entering a shop at Kuku, Ohau and stealing therefrom cigarettes tobacco, and preserved meats, to the value of £8 10s^9d, the property of George Buckman Brown. He pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence.
