INFLUENZA
STATEMENT BY HEALTH
MINISTER.
A statement in respect to the prevailing wave of influenza was made by the Minister of Health in reply to a question asked in the House of Representatives ™f,v fternoOn b? Mr- A- L- Monteith (Wellington East). Sir Maui Pomare said influenza was a recurring trouble, and was prevalent all over the Dominion. It was difficult to stop all traffic because of its presence. lne disease was also prevalent in Australia. Fortunately, the outbreak was a mild one, and if people observed precautions it would be possible to weather the storm quite easily. The spread of the penumonic type was not as serious as people imagined. In a gr ea t many instances ordinary influenza was being called pneumonic influenza. Modern authorities regarded it as being futilo to close public gatherings and stop train travelling. He had been led to believe that the nurses at the Hospital were suffering from the ordinary typo of influenza. J Jp
