YOUNG CITIZENS' LEAGUE ENTERTAINS THE GIRLS.

The series of entertainments which unfortunately had to bo postponed from June and which have been eagerly looked forward to by the girls and young women of the city and suburbs, will be hold m the Town Hall on Saturday and faunday. On account of the very cold weather prevailing and the prevalence of colds the swimming gala which was to have been held in the Boys' Institute Tepid Swimming Bath has been abandoned In its place it is hoped to give the girls a day in the country, when the weather becomes moro settled. Efforts on behalf of boys are not unknown to the citizens of Wellington. Quito recently the liotary Club organised and carried out a, "week-end" for boys which was not only much appreciated by the boys of the city, but which also put heart into those who have been working m their interests for many years back. It has generally been felt that boys need more guidance and control-than girlsbut many changes have come over the community since the outbreak of the war and our girls aro not just where they were before the year 1914. It is a question which all social workers must now consider whether the girls should not have as much attention given them as (he boys. The Young Citizens' League has espoused the cause of the girls. A special committee has been set up to consider the welfare of the girls, - and this committee has recommended that a girls week-end" be carried out on baturday and Sunday next. The effortIs more especially for girls from the ages of 12 to 18 years, but older girls, as well as mothers and friends, will be made welcome at the different gatherings. Mothers especially are requested to take an interest m the effort being made, and to attond all the meetings along with their daughters. On Saturday, night a free entortamment will be given in the large lown Hall, at which the programme will be supplied by the various girls' socielies f-r i S •m the c. ifcy- Some very beautiful physical exercise items will be given by the Girls' College, the V.M.C. \ girls' class, the Salvation Army L.S. a bright, atractive, and varied progue. Community singing, songs, recitations, glees, etc., will all go to make up a bright, attractive and varied programme. On Sunday the ministers of the city and suburban churches have agreed to preach sermons specially suited to girls. The league has issued a letter to the mothers of the city, asking them to attend the services with their daughters. On Sunday afternoon a young women's rally will be held in the large iown Hall, when suitable addresses will be given by well-known ladies of the city. Printed sheets of hymns will be provided. Mothers and friends are also invited to this gathering, which should be a uniquo and inspiring one. The whole of the expenses of the various gatherings are being provided by the Young Citizens League. Admission to all of them is free, and no collection will be taken up. A neat three-folder invitation with complete programme of all the gatherings has been printed, and is now being issued to the schools, shops, factories warehouses, etc. Any girl who has not received one can obtain a copy from Mr. G. Mitchell, Mrs. Brigadier Hoare, Mrs. Messenger, Mrs. Chatfield, Mrs Dunlop, Y.W.C.A., Mrs. Ladder. Miss Mac Lean, Girls' College. Miss Williams Miss Kershaw, Miss Nicholls, or from the Girls' Friendly Society and other girls' institutes or clubs.
