The New Zealand hockey team was accorded a civic reception by the Lord Mayor Mr. Nprton, in responding, hoped the present tour would result in usfful missionary work being achieved. If the game were established in primary schools, 'and then in the secondary schools, they could soon look forward to rjgular mter-Dominion ' contests between New Zealand and Australia ' The visitors opened their tour against a fairly strong Metropolitan side in fine weather. _ The New Zealanden proved superior in their combined efforts and defensive play, winning by 5' goals to I after leading at the interval by 2 to 1. ihe scorers were Boyd and Heaphy, two goals each, and Watts one. For the local team Nettlington goaled.
