AN OVERTURNED LAMP

WAIMATE, Ist August. A fire, caused'by a child overturning a kerosene lamp, gutted a four-roomed cottage this evening. Mrs. Wasley, the occupant, endeavoured to extinguish the flames, but was severely burnt about the face and hands, and is suffering from shock. One child also was slightly burnt, but the other two are unharmed. The brigade turned out promptly, but the building was an old one, and the flames had a good hold. The buiklin" was owned by Mr. R. Swan. The insurances are not available.
