A NEW GIRLS' COLLEGE
, The Goyernment grant of £30,000 for a new Girls' College is one which will be iwarmly approved in "Wellington. The decision .to erect a new, college building was made two years ago, but. first the site controversy and then the financial stringency led to postponement and more patchwork. -We hope, now, that there will be no further delay, but that the work' will be put in hand expeditiously and completed without' waste of time. Temporary, accommodation for secondary education has been so much used in Wellington of , late years that we have become accustomed to its evils, and fail to realise how much harm it does for both teachers and pupils. The new college will at least rid us of those.disadvantages. .It is to be noted, however, that the grant now made is for a section only of the new college. A further expenditure of £40,000 will be required to complete the block. We do not ask that this should be made available now; but we do urge the Board of Governors and the Government to guard against the delay and deputations which have preceded the first grant. The Board.should, see that ample notice ■JR given to the Government of the •need, for extensions, so that there may be no further recourse to temporary accommodation.
