Pending the funeral of the late Sir William praser, which is to. take place at 9.15 o'clock to-morrow 'morning, the body 13 lying in ono of the Committee rooms at Parliament Buildings. Mr. Walter'Gilmour, of Scotland, who has been on a health trip to the Dominion, leaves Wellington next week on a visit to the Islands. -

Councillors T. Forsyth and H. D Bennett, who will represent the Wellington City Council at the Municipal Conference, to open at Christchurch tomorrow, are leaving by the ferry steamer this evening. The Auckland City Council s representatives, Councillors Baildon and Miss Melville, arrived in Wellington yesterday on their way south: The conference is being held away from Wellington" for the first time for 25 or 26 years, a change of venue being decided upon at the last conference, the decision being to.hold the sittings in each island alternately. One of tho moat important questions as far as Wellington is concerned has to do with a largely supported remit proposing that the council should itself elect the Mayor. Eight councils or local bodies have forwarded practically similar remits bearing upon that point.
