BIGGER SHOWS TO FOLLOW

The experiment as to whether Wellington could successfully . carry through a mid-winter carnival wetk has shown quite clearly that it ■ can be done, at any rate, providing that the weather is kind, and perhaps last week the weather was exceptionally so for July. The Carnival Committee has stated definitely that further functions of a similar kind will be arranged,, and that the next will probably be held iv January, and, further, that ?.s a result of the experience gained last week future carnivals will be on a L bigger and more attractive scale, the ultimate aim being to secure for Wellington a-'bnilding providing adequite space for a-'full carnival show, indoors, and that proposal will shortly be discussed in detail by the executive.

The races at Trentham brought in the biggest gate of the three days' meeting, and sports fixtures ,in town were attended by unusually large crowds. Again, the' motor 'show committee reported big attendances at aftornoon and evening sessions, and the entertainment at the Grand Opera House, "A Pair of Silk Stockings," by Mr. Culford Bell's company, and the bright and happy children's ball; at the Town Hall, followed by a couple of hours or so of jazz for grown-ups, brought the carnival to a completely successful ending.
