WELLINGTON SOCIETY.

A l"™ ?,? of the General Committee of the Wellington District Horticultural Society was held on Thursday evening. ?" ?r F0X ' viee -President, presided. Messrs. Sievers, J. Bell, and A. O. ir-ye were welcomed by the chairman as new members of the committee. The convener of the special committee set up to collect and allocate the prizes presented a detailed report Yu ZV* consWered very satisfactory. About £100 in cash and trophies would be given in prizes at'the spring and rose snows, buburban growers would be specially catered for. Among the trophies available during the coming season, were the R. A. Wright trophy for the Spring Show and the "Evening Post trophy for the Rose Show, valued at £5 5s each, for suburban growers the Knox Gilmer trophy, Miss Josephs rose bowl, and trophy from Griffith and Son, also valued at £5 5s each for roses, Mr. R. A. Nicol's two trophies for pansies, valued at £7 7s and £3 3s each, the National Rose Society silver medal, and a £20 special cash prize/in addition to the ordinary prizes for the large collection of narcissus. There were also a number of other trophies to be competed for.

It was reported that the dates for the shows set down earlier in the year had unfortunately been also selected by the Lower Hutt Society. To prevent any exhibitor from being debarred from exhibiting at both shows it was decided to alter the Wellington dates, and have the Spring Show on Tuesday 11th Sep. teniber, in the Conceit Chamber, Town Hall, and the Rose Show on Tuesday, 20th November, in the large Town Hall! A special committee was pet up consisting of Messrs. Waugh, Clarke. Boyes, and the secretary, to put' in hand 'the printing of the schedule, and to select iudges for both shows. Wadestown Brooklyn, and St. Thomas' Societies forwarded notification of their affiliation for the ensuing' year. Members present stated that the Onslow and Hataitai Societies would be affiliating in the near future. '
