i The following letter from His Excellency the Governor-General Viscount Jellicoe was received by the- Prinze Minister lost,night:— Government -House, Wellington," 6th July. 1923.
Dear Mr.sMassay,— Onjny return t 0 Wellington by motor this afternoon I have heard with the deepest regret of the accident to the Main Trunk express tliis morning, resulting in such lamentable loss of life and so large a number o f injured. It is indeed sad to tn,mk of the number of families who -vn.il be plunged into mourning by this terrible catastrophe, and the deepest sympathy of Her.
