It was explained that the holdings were being over-run with fern, and that the carrying capacity had been greatly reduced. The sections would be a success if only the settlers were given time. The Primo Minister said he sympathised with the settlers. He promised them that there "would be no forfeitures in the meantime and that at the end of the session he would send the -Under-Secretary for Lands to the Valley to make full inquiries into the position. '.'You go home and carry on," was his parting advice.
