NEW ZEALAND DEFEATED BY METROPOLIS.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) SYDNEY, 20th June. Metropolis defeated the New Zealand Soccer team by 4 goals to 3 after a scraggy game, in which the visitors gave a more scientific display than the local men. The New Zealanders regarded the game in the nature of a picnic match, a number of the players changing their positions. Metropolis kept the ball in the air throughout, Sherringham's individualism being a feature. This player was especially alert in the. proximity of the goal-mouth, and netted on no fewer than four occasions. Campbell, Balk, and Thomas goaled for New Zealand. The game was played at Manly, which is the hot-bed of the Rugby Union, but apart from dribbling rushes the New •Zealand game was not edifying from a propaganda standpoint.
