ACRIMONIOUS
COMMONS ON FINANCE BILL
CHANGE IN LAND TRANSFER LAW
(USITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIMGHT.I (AUSTRALIAN . NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received 21st June, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, 20th June. The House of Commons concluded the Committee stage of the Finance Bill in the small hours of the morning. A sec- | tion of the Labour Party made the later stages acrimonious by obstruction, raising innumerable points of order, and trying to place the Government in difticnlties by first demanding divisions on clauses, and irom them on insisting upon dividing the House continually. The amendment of Sir A. Butt (Conservative) repealing the provisions ot the Finance Act. 1910, which made transfers of land notifiable, was carried by 195 votes to 106. Sir \V. Joynson-Macks, though personally favouring the amendment, said the Government could not accept it, but the Premier entered and removed the Government Whip, leaving his supporters free to vote as they chose. The Conservatives cheered the result of the division.
