COLERIDGE LETTERS
"Letters to My Grandson on the World About Him," and "Letters to My Grandson on the Happy Life." By Stephen Coleridge. London: Mills and Boon (Whitcombe and Tombs, Wellington).
These two valuable books, together with "Letters to My Grandson on the Glory of English Prose," have been so popular that further editions have been called for. They are the letters of a very able lawyer, the Hon. Stephen Coleridge, and are invaluable to parents, who can base upon them many talks on serious matters for young people, or can place the books directly, into the hands of their children. No adult can read these books without being edified. The letters to the grandson (an actual person, now grown up) relute to astronomy, the earth, and the operation thereon of natural processes. Physics, insect life, Man, even the Einstein theory are dealt with in quite simple terms and very easy to understand. The "Happy Life" letters are addressed to the grandson grown up. They are concerned in the main with character-building and principles of conduct. Concluding these letters the writer gives a sort of benediction to Antony, his grandson: "I can wish you no better fate than to come as early as you may to a condition of life that will allow you to leave the world of combat and struggle, and find peace among the ever-changing beauty of a country home—peace in your surroundings and peace within your heart."
