WESTERN SUBURBS
QUESTION OF ACCESS,
_ Delegates from the Karori Progressive Association, Kolbura Ratepayers' Association, and Northland Progressive Association, together with the executive of the .Civic League, met yesterday to discuss means of access to the western suburbs. Mr. Stuart Wilson occupied the chair. The whole subject was exhaustively discussed, and the following resolutions carried:—\
1. That this meeting affirms the necessity for a new tramway connection between the central portion of the city, Karori, and Northland, including Northland Extension, on the best available route. 2. That whatever route to Karori and Northland is adopted, tho Northland extension from the existing line will be a necessary part; therefore this meeting advocates the immediate completion of the Northland extension. 3. That in the opinion of the delegates at the meeting a tramway connection via Bowen street, between Lambton quay at the Government Buildings and Tinakori road at the Botanical Gardens gates, is urgently necessary, and that tho City Council bo urged to construct such lino accordingly. 4. That the City Council be urged xo set up immediately a committee of indepondent experts to investigate and report as to the most practical, best available, and most suitable route for a _ new tramway connection, combined with an arterial roadway, between the central portions of the city and Karori, with a view of finally settling the question of routo and ■ enabling the necessary steps to be taken, without delay, for the construction of this admittedly necessary work. 5. That this meeting desires the Civic League' to do its utmost to have these resolutions given effect to, and to this end the approval and sympathy of other associations be enlisted in representing to the council that the city' ratepayers desire the work to be put in hand.
