SUPERANNUATION
RAILWAY OFFICERS' PROPOSALS.
Among the questions to be dealt with at the annual conference of the Railway Officers' Institute, to ( be held at AucSland on 21st Junej will be proposals for the amendment of the Railways Act in respect to superannuation.;
_ One proposal is that the Superannuation Board should be empowered, in specially deserving cases, to extend the payment of. allowances to children .up to 16 years of age, and it is suggested further that the superannuation allowance payable to widows should be increased from £18 per annum to £52. Other remits are as follow:— That superannuation contributors have the right to elect to accept a reduced retiring allowance (to be actuarially computed) in order to make additional provision for their wives in the event of such contributors predeceasing them; that contributors to the Superannuation Fund who joined after 24th December, 1909, and who are contributing thereto at the same rate as contributors to the Public Service Superannuation Fund, shall receive the same benefits as the contributors to the latter fund; that those contributors who joined the Superannuation Fund after 24th December, 1909, and .whose maximum retiring allowance will therefore be limited to £300 per annum, shall not contribute to the fund on any salary received in excess of £450 per annum.
