COMMONWEALTH AID FOR THE STATES
COAL FROM FEDERAL STOCKS.

MELBOURNE, 24th May. The Federal Prime Minister (Mr. S. M. Bruce), speaking at the Premiers' Conference with reference to the coal dispute in New South Wales, said that the Commonwealth had certain stocks of coal, and as the Commonwealth realised that it was imperative that certain public utilities and State activities tshould be carried out, it was prepared to allocate the coal to the States to enable them to carry on necessary activities. The Government had appointed a commission to advise on the distribution of the coal in the States.
