COLLEGE DEBATES
10 THE EDITOR. ■ . ; Si)*,—l have read with interest the letter appearing in Tuesday's "Post," written by Mr. P. J. G. Smith. I congratulate him on its length, and feel sure fcllis alone makes the Welfare League lake a back place. The way in which Mr. Smith has been able to writs so fully and yet made bo little headway is somewhat ingenious, and perhaps should be" appreciated: However, the letter has possibly achieved a purpose—perhaps its main ..purpose—-for once more we-see tEe name of the Victoria College Debating Society in print, and it may therefore ie of so.me use to give one or two details in regard to this harmless institution. It composes a humorously insignificant number of the college students, and the number of the enthusiasts on clearing up world problems, etc., k still fewer. These few are able to carry the "violent" (no real danger) motion? with the assktan.ee of a large number of sympathisers who doe not. attend the college, but who are encourage to attend the intellectual treats which the debating society provides. The motions so carried may therefore be considered as being of little importance as far as the.college is concerned, and do not represent the views of even a small section, of the students.—l am, etc., UNCONCEBNEI). 23rd.
