OBITUARY

MR- JOHN FULLER, SENR.

The death of Mr. John Fuller, senior, aged 74 years, occurred at Auckland yesterday, after a short illness. The late Mr. John Fuller, the head of the Fuller family, waa well known throughout Australia and New Zealand. He was born in London in 1849. He served his apprenticeship as a compositor, and worked on a number of the great London dailies. Mr. Fuller had a fine voice j as a boy. He underwent tuition and i training, and ultimately decided to follow up the theatrical profession, abandoning his trade as a printer. For some years ha appeared in many of the London theatres and music-halls. He was also a member of the Mohawk Moore and Burgess Minstrels. While he was with them, unfortunately one severe winter he developed bronchitis, which resulted in asthma. Acting on medical advice, in 1888 he left England, and came out to Australia, having received an engagement with the London Pavilion Company, and subsequently he toured the colonies with the various concert companies. In 1895 he started a series of popular concerts in Auckland. In course of time the successful venture was extended to other centres of the Dominion and to Australia, the development in the Commonwealth devolving mainly upon Sir Benjamin Fuller, who, with his' brother John, is now concerned in large interests in Sydney and Melbourne. The late Mr. John Fuller retired from active business some years ago, and. has since resided in Auckland. The deceased leaves a widow, three daughters, and four sons, namely, Mrs. T. Boddam (wife of Senior Detective Boddwn, Wellington), Mrs. Hamar (wife of the manager of Fullers' Theatre, Dunedin), and Mrs. Harry Grubb (Auckland), and his sons, Sir Benjamin Fuller, and Messrs.
