TO MOVE CHARING CROSS
An exhibition organised by the London Society of Designs, including drawings and models, for a new bridge across the Thames, near- Charing Cross, was opened reoently in London, 6ays the "Manchester Guardian." All the suggestions propoee the removal of the present railway station at Charing Ctos to the south side of the river, and in each case the present site of the terminus forms the approach to the proposed bridge. Some of the designs are most comprehensive, and include extensive rearrangement* on both sides of the river. One proposes a new joint station near Waterloo, for the railways serving South-eastern ' and South-western England. In the same plan the present Charing Cross Underground station would be beneath the viaduct spanning the embankment at the point where the present railway brige crosses. Another plan sug-, gests the carrying of the underground trains between the roadway of the bridge and the river—that is, in a structure within the supports of the bridge.
