"LORNA DOONE."
"Lorna Doone," a strong drama of the old English days, its gay courts, its knights and ladies, its robber barons, and its simple country life, will be shown at the Empress Theatre to-mor-row, as'the main attraction on the new, programme. It is a First National production, starring Madge Bellamy. R. D. Blackmore's immortal classic and undying love. story has been exceedingly well adapted for the screen, resulting in an unusual production. The following is a summary of the story: Lorna, while travelling in a coach on a lonely road with her mother, the Countess of Lome,- is kidnapped by robber barons. The old chief comes to love her as a daughter and protects her from the rest of the clan. Dying, he leaves her to a fate worse than death, but she is rescued by John Ridd, a simple country gentleman. The revelation of her birth takes her back to court, for her love for John Ridd is stronger than the lure of wealth, and she gives up all to return ■to him. Also on the programme is Harold Lloyd in "Number Please."
