HAWERA, This Day. There is a light drizzle, and the atmos. pheve is cold for the opening day of the Egmont races. The course is very eoft. There is a fair attendance. Following are results:—
Telegraph Hack Handicap, of ISO eovs; five furlongs.—Lady Merriwee, 7.2, 1; Tinohari, 7.2, 2; Treadwell, 7.2, 3. Scratched: Parkman. Won by a neck, a similar distance separating second and third. Time, Imrn S 2-ssec. Tongahoe Hurdles, of 200 soys; one mile and- a half.—Tinokaha, 9.7, 1; White Ranger, 9.11, 2; Great Fun, 9.7, 3. Scratched: Malingerer, Passin' Through, Zanol, Watercall, Husker, and Price. Won by two lengths, with three lengths dividing the others. Time, 3 mm 59 l-ssec.
Telegraph Hack Handicap, of 150 sovb; five furlongs.— Lady Glissas, 7.12, 1; Loved One, 7.11, 2; Just Quietly, 7.5, 3. Scratched: Alabama., Ben Nevis, Sunny Yale, Cushat, San Franette, and Alanc. 'Won by two lengths, one length separating second and third. Time, lmm 6£sec. (FaMy heavy rain was falling when the Telegraph Handicap was being run.) Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase, of 200 soys; two mil«s.—Paul Moore 912 1; San Forte, 9.0, 2; Ringi, 9.12, 3* Scratched: Fibre, Noble, and Naughty Won by three lengths, with five lengths separating second and third.
