NEW HEBRIDES
CONDOMINIUM UNPOPULAR
CASE FOE FRENCH SOLE CONTROL.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.— COPIRIOHT.) (Received 9th May, 10 a.m.)
t\t v , SYDNEY, This Day. M. Raymond Pognon, president of the New Caledonian Parliament, in an interview says that Britain should foreeo her claims to the New Hebrides, as sev-enty-five per cent, of the white inhabitants are French, and the same proportion exists m trade and property. Neither French nor British residents desired the continuance of the condominium, and the majority of the British residents favoured French ownership. The Australian fears that the Japanese will overrun the place if the British withdraw are, lie said, groundless, as the climatic conditions are unsuitable for the Japanese. There are no Japanese there at present, though there is nothing else to stop them. Not a single person, not even a condominium official, is in favour of the present control.
