BOXING
LOCAL ASSOCIATION MEETS.
The committee of the local Boxing Association met last evening, when correspondence was read in connection with the Boxing Association's contribution to the entertainment during the Welcome Week in July. It was notified that the evening of the 10th July had been allocated for a tournament, and it was tentatively arranged that a contest for tho lightweight championship between Murray, the holder, and either Demsky or Blackburn be the principal event. The Matching Committee reported that arrangements had been made to hold a tournament on Monday, 21st inst., when Clarrie Blackburn and Paul Demsky will meet. It was agreed that the amateur championships be staged early in June on dates to be fixed. In connection with the North Island championBhips, to tie held early in July; it was agreed to vote in favour of the fixture being held at Napier. The New Zealand Boxing Council notified the coming into force- of the recently-adopted centre system of control, and of the election of Mr. E. A. Dawson as honorary secretary of the Wellington Centre. The committee decided to dispose of surplus gloves over from last season as follows : One set each to Wellington College, Soots College, Wesley College, St. Patrick's College, and Croydon Schools O£ficals for the season were appointed as follow:—Referee, Mr. Earl Stewart; judges, Messrs. Staples and Woods; timekeepers, Messrs. Cook and Coltman; official seconds, Messrs. Hull and Coffey; stage manager, Mr. E. A. Dawson; announcer, Mr. Arthur Curtayne. Mr. J. B. Staples was appointed chairman of committee.
