ELECTION RESULTS

HOW INFORMAL VOTES WERE

CAST

NEED FOR CLEAR. ISSUES,

The recount of the votes polled in the election of the Wellington Harbour Board as announced by the Keturmng Officer {Mr. James Ames) shows that, a gain of about 400 votes has pleaced Mr. C. J. B. Norwood ahead of Captain Post, who lost ground, but the result makes no difference to the personnel of the board. The official figures are. as follow; the result of the first count being shown in parentheees:— Mitchell, G 16,755 (15,799) Bennett, H.D 15,713 (15,669) Norwood C. J. B. ... 13,440 (13,038) 1 Post, Capt. C. F. ... 12,776 (10,363) (The above are elected.) Chapman, C. H 11,468 (11,494) YounV W. T 9,897 (9,831) Glover, L. 8,874 (8,922) Hobba, C. 6,958 (6,913) Objection Las been raised in some quarters to the number of seat* on the Harbour Board occupied by representatives of the Combined Districts of Lower Hutt, Petono, and Eastbourne. Before the amalgamation with the city of I the borough of Onslow, Karori, and [ Khandallah, these districts were included in the Combined District and elected two members to the board, and the number still remains the. same, although tho population of the electors in the district has been reduced by about one half. It is contended that Wellington, having absorbed a large part of the district, should have one. more representative on. tlm boiivd, »ty«l font the Combined District should have one less.
