(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION- —COPYRIGHT.) (Received Bth May, noon.) ' ' ■ . . PERTH, This Day. The Federal Prime Minister (Mr. S. M. Bruce) has announced that Mr. Donald Mackinnon has been appointed Commissioner at Washington for one year.
Mr. Donald Mackinnon was Attorney General, Solicitor-General, Minister of Railways, and Vice-President of the Board of Land and Works, Victoria, during the period 1914-16, and has been member for Prahran in the Victorian Parliament since 1900. Finishing .. his education at Oxford, he was called to the English Bar in 1883, and to the Victorian Bar in 1884. In 1916 he was Di-rector-General of Recruiting for the Commonwealth. He has considerable land interests in Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. When it was announced that Australia was to appoint a Commissioner at Washington, it was frequently predicted that Mr. W. H.. Hughes would secure the position.
