Fruit.—Still large supplies of American on hand, and with continued arrivals o£ Australian, the market is depressed, and values are low, with no prospect at present rising. New Zealand fruit is selling slowly. Cox's Orange is the only variety to maintain a price. Other varieties can only be sold at a loss. Prices 8s 6d, 11s per case. Irish, English, French, Dutch, and Danish, 11s, 13s 3d per long 100 (120); Egyptian, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Brittany, and Syrian, 7s 3d, 10s 6d per long 100 (120). EXCHANGE AND BUTTER .PRICES. The National Dairy Association of New Zealand, Ltd., has received the following cable from its London office, dated 3t!i May:—Butter.—Market weak. New Zealand, salted 1443 to 146 a, unsalted 15Cs to 1525; Australian, salted 134s to 138s; Argentine, salted 120s to 1365; Danish, salted 154s to 1565. "Contributing causes to butter decline are the adverse German exchange forcing Danish on this market, and increased Baltic and Swedish supplies. Retail prices were too high to absorb the imports. These have now been reduced to le 4d to Is 6d, and a healthier trade is expected. "Cheese.—Market firm, with good demand at the lower prices. New Zealand, white and coloured, 94s to 965; Canadian, white and coloured, 90s; Australian, white and coloured, 84s to 865."
