PRESBYTERIANISM

AUCKLAND ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED.

(II lILEGItA?H.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

AUCKLAND, 7th May. The eightieth anniversary of the establishment of Presbyterianism in this city and province was celebrated at a service held in the Town Hall this evening. The Moderator of the General Assembly (the Rev. W. J.. Comrie) presided.

Lord Jellicoe, in an address, said that ths Presbyterian Church in New .Zealand had conferred great good on the Dominion and its people. Presbyterianism in this country was distinguished for two things—its strong support of religion and its strong support of education. There was room in tho Dominion for a revival of religious sentiment, and if we followed in tho footsteps of the early pioneers, developing courage, self-sacrifice, and self-reliance, not only the Dominion but the whole Empire would be better for it.

Mr. Massey also delivered an address, mainly reminiscent of Presbyterian stalwarts he knew in the old days.
