.'. LONPON, 22nd March". Last week-end 1 Sir Jajiies, Allen and Mr. E. Nixon Westwtio'd : . (Officer for Samoan Affairs) went over to Holland as the guests and. at the expense" of ths directors of■-, Jurgens . Oliefabrieken, a. company which is using'a great deal of Samoan copra, for the extraction of oil" for the manufacture of margarine. ■They were met by Mr.' Kratzmarr (general buyer for the company), Mr. Vwenhpuzer (technical director),'; and Mr. 5 Grobt (rfffice manager),: and taken out to' the works at Dordrecht. The High Commissioner took a great' interest in whati he saw, and was very with' thei whole 'of the arrangements which .had been made by the company for-the visit.; One-special feature of the organisation was the use they made of scientific research.. ,A staff of. chemical experts is always at work, and tho results of their investigations, are applied'to the manu.. . facturing processes. Thus it has been discovered now to solidify the oil after it has been deodorised, and' margarine may be .manufactured, from .the solid., substance, which will; not .melt in :' tha hottest summer. The visitors were entertained at lunch, spent a. very enjoyable and instructive afternoon, and returned to Harwich the, same night. ' ■' On Monday' Sir James attended at the Savoy Hotel in honour of Sir George Fuller, Prime Minister of New South' Wales. Last night he and Lady Allen were present at the reception given by; the Japan: Society, at which the Japanese Ambassador, as president, acted ad host. The distinguished company included diplomatic representatives of various foreign countries. . - ■ The' High Commissioner finds it necess sary to go over to' Paris next "week to sign an amendment of the International Air Convention. He will take the 'opportunity, to inspect the plaque for the Les Quesney memorial which, is being executed by' a French sculptor." s "Mr S.
