LONDON, StE May. The attempt,by Georges Barbot to win the prize of 25,000 francs offered by "L.c Temps"_ for crossing the Channel m a glider failed after he had been in the affHwo hours. Ascending "at Saint Inglevert.'for Lympne, Kent, with a fifteen horse-power engine,: the small supply of petrol allowed carried him two thousand feet up.' Crowds'at Cape Grisnez watched. Barbot hovering. Two seaplanes which .were expected to accompany the glider failed to appear,, and Barbot was forced to make a. descent, but his long^hovering in the air was in itself a feat.
